IFMA Tulsa Monthly Meeting

Join us on November 16th for lunch and a tour of The Little Light House!
The Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for children with special needs age birth to six years old. We provide tuition free therapy and special education services for our children regardless of religious beliefs, gender, race or socioeconomic status. The LLH is unique in its approach to services as we use what is called a trans-disciplinary team model. This model consists of professionals from each therapeutic discipline (speech, physical, occupational, low vision) and special education teachers. Our therapists and teachers, along with a team of trained associates, a Registered Nurse, and an Assistive Technology Professional, work as a team within the classroom to help each child reach their maximum potential. Our trans-disciplinary team engages the families to set developmental goals for each child and provides monthly parent meetings to equip the parents with resources and methods to help carry out techniques used at the LLH in their home.

In 1972, the LLH opened its doors in a one-room, small framed house with one teacher, five students and fives volunteers and quickly grew. After renting space for 18 years, we built our own facility at 36th and Yale. The demand for our services has continued to grow through the years and to meet this need, we launched our Capital Campaign, Building Brighter Tomorrows for Children with Special Needs. Since the LLH operates completely debt-free, the campaign has been completed in phases. In August 2016, moved into the newly expanded building, which provided larger classrooms to enable us to increase enrollment, a new therapeutic gym, a Sensory Stimulation Room and an Assistive Technology Room. Additionally, there are second floor Observatories, which are crucial for training parents, College & Career students, professionals, and interns both locally and worldwide. This was a $16.5M project that was completed debt-free because of generous supporters just like you! We are now in the final phase of our Capital Campaign, which is a $2.5M renovation of our existing building. We were just recently issued a $500,000 Challenge Grant from The J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation. We hope to have this matched by the end of December allowing us to begin the renovation in March 2018.
