IFMA Tulsa and IFMA’s OSU student chapter sent a total of seven members to World Workplace in Orlando, FL. Home to Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios, this year’s annual IFMA event proved to be a great vacation spot as well as an opportunity to network with other FM professionals and attend a number of educational sessions to learn more about personal topics of interest such as going green, etc.
This year featured a number of new twists. Instead of having a closing keynote speaker, attendees where treated to a “Power Lunch” where you could grab a sandwich and spend your lunch hour with one of four speakers who covered a variety of topics. Another new feature had the opening keynote speaker address the attendees Wednesday morning versus Wednesday afternoon and had the Expo open on Wednesday morning after the keynote address. As a result of the Expo opening earlier on Wednesday, the Expo shut down on Thursday afternoon. In the past, the Expo had opened on Wednesday afternoon and closed on Friday.
IFMA OSU student chapter attendees included Hannah Hulin, Sarah Pannell and Megan Humbolt. Sarah and Megan attended as IFMA Foundation scholarship winners. A special guest of the Tulsa chapter was Pat Hanford. Pat is a former IFMA Tulsa member and along with Ted Webb, was instrumental in starting the IFMA Tulsa chapter and the IFMA OSU student chapter. Pat accepted the IFMA 2009 Distinguished Member award for Ted who was unable to attend.
This year’s trip to Orlando also featured the annual IFMA Tulsa chapter dinner. This year we dined at Bahama Breeze. The location turned out to be right next door to Howl at the Moon which was the site of the annual Cort Furniture party. The food was excellent and the drinks were pretty good, too. A great time was had by all.
