The September 2013 meeting was a discussion of IFMA education, certification and programs. Addressing the chapter were Chapter Past-President and Education Chair, Tony Lenox, Chapter Vice President and CFM Trainer, Ross Phippen, Certification Chair Johnny Onkst & Program Chairs Doug Martin and Jackie Ball.
Education Chair Tony Lenox discussed our efforts to work with the IFMA Oklahoma State University chapter in an ongoing goal to create a degreed Facility Managment program. The late Ted Webb who was our Education Chair for many years had a goal up getting a degreed program in place at OSU and Tony and the board have continued to work to make this a reality. Several members of the executive board traveled to Stillwater to meet with the new department head and IFMA OSU student chapter advisor to discuss next steps in making this happen.
Certification Chair, Johnny Onkst, discussed the FMP (Facility Management Professional) and SFP (Sustainability Facility Professional) programs that are available to IFMA members in lieu of or in addition to the CFM (Certified Facility Manager) designation.
Chapter vice president, Ross Phippen, is a certified CFM trainer. Ross discussed the recent changes to the CFM exam and the way training is provided. Ross also shared that chapter members can apply to have the expenses for their CFM exam paid for by the chapter.
Program Chair, Doug Martin and Co-chair Jackie Ball, discussed upcoming programs included the golf tournament in October, a program on LEED in November and the annual Christmas Party in December. The attendees were asked what kind of programs they liked and what would they like to see in 2014. Facility tours seemed to be a popular choice and one of the suggestions that came up was to tour The Mayo Hotel. It was also suggested that we invite whomever is elected as mayor in November. Past programs with the mayor have proven to be popular.
