Linda Beverly addresses the Tulsa Chapter

The IFMA Tulsa Chapter August meeting was held on August 23, 2001 at the Ambassador Hotel. It was another very unique meeting for our chapter. Linda Beverly, Director of Member Resources for IFMA International was our guest speaker. The meeting was once again well attended with approximately 30 members and guests in attendance.

Linda shared a wealth of information with us. She highlighted the IFMA Councils and how they can be beneficial to the membership. She addressed the upcoming IFMA World Workplace 2001 being held in Kansas City and all the benefits of attending this event. She also focused on a number of changes happening in the IFMA organization that will be rolled out at the Annual Meeting in Kansas City on September 23, 2001.

In a chapter update, President Brian Bennett provided information on the recent IFMA Tulsa Board of Directors Retreat and gave a sneak preview of the theme for the upcoming luncheon meetings for 2001-2002. Brian announced that the meetings would focus on the IFMA Core Competencies that make up the basis of the CFM exam. This is information that Facility Managers are required to know to pass the exam and become a Certified Facility Manager.

In a recent Membership Survey sent out to the IFMA Tulsa membership, educational opportunities were indicated as something that was lacking in the Tulsa chapter. In recognition of this area of concern, your Board of Directors has vowed to improve our efforts in this area. Programs chairperson Shara Clarke, Certification chairperson Ted Webb, Education co-chairs Darla Kindrick and Gary Moutray and last but not least, former Education chair Pat Hanford will be putting together the best possible speakers to address these Core Competencies at our upcoming luncheons.

We had several guests at our August meeting. Cindy Landers is joining our chapter as a Student member. Terry Egleston with Phillips petroleum attended as a potential new member. One other very special guest was Linda Beverly?s sister Celesta Mathis who lives in Broken Arrow.

Angela DeWalt?s name was drawn for our monthly jackpot. Angela was present and won $125.00! The jackpot goes back to $25.00 at the next meeting. Congratulations Angela!

Thanks to all who attended this very special meeting. Our goal for the coming year is to have 50% of our membership in attendance at each meeting. Considering 20% has been the norm, we have quite a goal to obtain. We can do it! Right???
